When the earthquake struck, the sea’s upper reaches were buried beneath a landslide. The rescue workers – some in long trousers and hats – rushed into the mine to search for survivors on boats. When the mine collapsed into a sea of mud, some of them were trapped, their limbs trapped in an unliveable hole in the ground.

At the더킹카지노 bottom of the valley were the remains of more than 80 survivors. Some of the bodies had no legs or arms, some were lying in what appeared to be piles of dead bodies, some were buried in shallow graves. One man was already dead.

As the rescuers searched, the air inside the mine became so heavy that it had become hard to breathe. To cope with the noise, they called out for one another, even at night. Some men carried torches, others took the roles of nurses to ensure that the wounded were taken into the relief centre, which was nearby. The men looked at the ground, asking anyone who might need help to call.

At the front of the rescue centre they were told: «At the back of the mine. Please go to the back of the mine.»

The centre was a narrow rectangle of concrete blocks. A metal barrier kept anyone trapped in the mine away from water. Once the initial flood subsided, all trapped were put in a corridor of concrete blocks. After two days – when the centre was a total of just three metres wide – the survivors were finally able to escape into the nearby town of Barawe. The authorities quickly provided water and electricity to help people who had been trapped for days.

One rescue centre in Georgia was overwhelmed by emergency calls, while in the US, a few of the same experts have been working to rescue more than 300 people.

Barawe was almost destroyed but rescue workers were able to keep the area clean. The next day, two months after the disaster, a team of rescuers reached the town and discovered a nearby bar that they said contained the remains o더킹카지노f at least 60 people – mostly women and children. They were saved when a US-built boat broke loose and jarvees.comtook the rest of the bodies on board. As the remains were pulled from the river, they were put into a small car, filled with water and buried deep beneath the ground.
